A ribbon -cutting held in Union April 4, 2003 marked the official opening of the third drug store owned by Newton pharmacist and businessman Richard Smith.
It is also the first of his drugstores to bear the name "Smith."
The 6,000 square foot building was designed by architect Brian Pitts, who was raised in Newton, Mississippi. 
"Basically, I told the architect what I wanted," Smith said. "He designed it, and then we showed it to my wife Laura.
This pharmacy demonstrates the flexibility offered by McMillan-Pitts Construction Company in working on an intensive design-build project, being able to incorporate real-time feedback from the owner to produce the exact desired effect.
